Butcher's Alley, Alan Wake 2 Relight - UE5

These are some shots from a relight I did last winter (2023) of Dekogon Studios fantastic UE5 scene "Butcher's Alley Palmetro Future City". It was a good exercise to shake some rust off with UE5 and give Sky Creator a proper try (Loved it. Unsurprisingly)

For this one, I took heavy inspiration from Geoffroy Calis's work in Alan Wake 2's "Dark Place" environments. Since this environment is a little more Cyberpunk than the Dark Place's twisted take on New York I wasn't targeting a 1:1 match. Instead, I was hoping to use AW2 as a starting point and then lean the final image in a slightly different direction.

For the photography I used a large format camera sensor so I could use longer lenses while still retaining a wider field of view (and because they're neat). Some soft lens flares and subtle lens dirt helped with the feel as well.
Unreal 5.3 - Lumen + Ray-tracing, Nanite

Used HDR sky dome sphere and Sky Creator for the sky light, atmospherics, rain, and material fx for the puddles/wetness/etc.
All color correction in Unreal, images straight from there.
Used lens dirt and made lens flares with "Custom Lens Flare VFX" by Artyom Cheremisin
